Update from Evie Toomes

Chris Price

Evie has Struggled lately but her commitment to riding and competing hasn’t wavered. A fabulous show at Arena UK-ESUK resulted in some fantastic places and wins in her section (forces equine). Daisy jumped clear in all 3 classes- really looking after Evie who rode brilliantly with this new partner. Evie was determined to attend the show, despite lack of her normal transport, which is key to Evie’s health regime. One night sleeping in the trailer was a price worth paying and worth every second.

Unfortunately Evie was admitted to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham a couple of days later during a routine clinic appointment. She was struggling to keep down even the pump feed which helps to supplement the little food she can tolerate due to gastroparesis. This was a huge blow as Evie was due to travel to Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire for the British Showjumping National Championships.

Not to be put off, she requested permission to compete and she was granted afternoon leave, as the Championships were being held only an hour away from the hospital. However whilst her horse was on the way to the show, Evies hopes were crushed as she was getting ready to leave – a brain scan was requested due to additional symptoms (loss of peripheral vision in the left eye and pain), so Evie had to stay admitted at the hospital. Thankfully the scan was clear- huge relief! Evie now has a new feeding plan and after some weight gain she has been discharged after spending 2 weeks in hospital.

Evie has many plans to compete as soon as possible and although exhausted initially, she has had some great training sessions on Daisy this week so they are looking forward to getting back out on the show circuit! Evies other young mare, Breeze, has provided great therapy and they have been doing lots of jumping exercises to improve Evie’s balance.

Both of Evie’s horses are powered by Global Herbs products, MoveFreePlus and GlobalVite.
