Sarah combines her riding alongside a full time job in the pension / finance industry. An Event rider at heart, after working for Mrs Marietta Fox-Pitt for 4 years at the weekends and school holidays before working as Yard Manager and competing some of the home bred horses up to Novice / 1* level before they went on to William Fox-Pitt.
After being self employed for 2 years and setting up her own business, SG Equestrian, Sarah made the decision to get a ‘proper’ job alongside the horses. Currently working 9-5, Monday to Friday and having 3 horses certainly keeps her busy! Sarah starts 2017 with Roxie and Milli who are her own horses, as well as Diaz who is owned by a friend.
Roxie, who is an ex-racehorse, has been re-trained by Sarah to event and the pair have evented up to Intermediate/2* level. In June 2014 Roxie and Sarah had a crushing fall around the Intermediate XC track at Tweseldown. It was touch and go with Roxie for a few weeks but following surgery on her knee Roxie fought for her life and began a long recovery journey. After a year off Roxie started to go out for the odd hack and in June 2016 Roxie started to jump again. After registering affiliated with British Showjumping in July 2016 the pair haven’t looked back. Roxie has already picked up 3 qualifications, been placed every time out, winning quite a lot too……clearly enjoying her jumping. For 2017 Sarah plans to continue jumping Roxie and just go out and have some fun. They have qualified for British Novice second rounds and are hoping to pick up their remaining Discovery double clears for second round qualification at this level too before April 2017.
Milli is a home bred horse, by event Stallion Mill Law and out of an Irish Sports Horse mare that Sarah did many years of Pony Club on. After starting her career in the eventing world and successfully competing up to Novice level as a 5/6 year old, Milli unfortunately picked up a leg injury which resulted in her having almost a year off. As Milli began jumping again it became very clear that this was to be her forte. The pair focused on picking up their double clears at Discovery level and are now confidently jumping around Newcomer/1.15m tracks. For 2017 Sarah is hoping to pick up her remaining Newcomer double clears and begin jumping some Foxhunter/1.30m tracks with Milli.
Diaz joined the ‘four-legged’ team at SG Equestrian in May 2015 and was to be produced and sold on for her owner. Sarah and Diaz soon built up a great relationship and were going from strength to strength eventing with regular placings at BE90 and BE100 level. In July 2016 Diaz did herself a mischief in the field and following a visit to the vets she has had a bit of a relaxing winter but is now ready to be brought back into work ready for the start of the 2017 competition season.
As well as working and competing Sarah also does a bit of teaching as and when she finds the time, including for local Pony Clubs and Riding Clubs.
Sarah has been using Global Herbs products for the last 10 years after having excellent results using Sarc-Ex on Roxie. Sarah has also used a number of other products in the equine range, including MoveFree Plus, Hocks, StrongBone, Flax Oil, Turmeric, BlackSalt, Acid-X, PreBioHerb, SuperCalm, ImmuPlus, GlobalVite, Restore, FlyFree and supplements from the Skratch range. Sarah also received greats results from the Hoof Aid ointment.
Sarah says: “I thoroughly love working alongside the Global Herbs team, they are just at the end of the phone for advice if ever I have any queries and all the products have worked amazingly and done exactly what they say on the tub…..what more could you want?”
