Team GH – Camilla Hardie Update

Chris Price

“Last week was full of preparation for our first event of the season, Aston-Le-Walls BE100 for both Beau and Dougal in the Open. Stud holes were fitted, last bit of canter work done, I spent Friday afternoon washing tails and legs in the snow… to then get a text to say it was abandoned. Unsurprised and secretly a little relieved as I would have had to leave home at 8am and not get back ’til about 9pm – it would have been a long drive (in the snow!) and a sharp return to the eventing season! Our next planned event is Stafford (which has been abandoned for the previous 3 years on the Sunday) so fingers crossed for a drought for the next fortnight!

After a quick search on Friday night a change of plan was made, and I decided to take the rising 4 year old Bailey to his first pony party. I had thought I’d introduce him to the competitive world with a dressage test, but our local and lovely friendly competition venue had some unaffiliated show jumping on. Now Bailey has jumped a handful of fences under saddle, never a course and only 1 fence at a time in my arena so I figured this would be an interesting test! Clippers came out, tail was washed and tack was cleaned, Bailey sprang onto the lorry (that he’s never travelled on) like he knew something fun was going on! Luckily, as hoped, Tushingham Arena was lovely and quiet, a couple of other horses to warm up with in the indoor, we had a nice trot around the outdoor arena and 8 fences. The perfect introduction to his future. He didn’t put a foot wrong and thoroughly enjoyed the jumping!”
