Rebecca Cowderoy Update

Chris Price

“I’ve had a manic few weeks. We moved yards on 1st August and all horses have settled straight away. It’s such a peaceful yard and the horses all seem very happy. Lisci has got the best and biggest stable on the yard which overlooks the whole yard, she loves observing the daily goings on, she’s queen of the castle!

I’ve got 15 boxes and filled 9 so far so I’ve got a few spare for part/full/competition/sales/training livery. There are still lots of things left to do as I’ve been so busy I’ve not had time which is slightly annoying but we’ll get there. The new 20m x 60m school should be started this week which will be a welcome addition, as working in a 20m x 40m is not ideal, but I’m managing. It’s so nice to have my own yard and space to expand my business and horse power.

Rabbit has been going very well, she’s getting stronger all the time and is now able to sit more in canter and is getting the hang of the medium trot, so I couldn’t be any happier with her – she’s such a lovely horse. I’ve been making the most of the fantastic hacking and she’s been enjoying having lots of canters, she’s so well behaved and easy.

Lisci is now back in full work and is feeling very fresh. I’ve been working on her canter pirouettes getting her to take more weight behind so they are slower enabling her to lift more through the shoulder for a more expressive pirouette. Let’s hope it all comes together for the National Championships in September. I’ve also been working on her piaffe and getting her quicker behind, and the 1x tempi changes where smaller and slower is key so Lisci can balance – although Lisci has other ideas and wants to give me huge changes which she can’t cope with! She’s also been enjoying the hacking, it’s so nice to be able to give them both lots of variety in their work.

I’m so busy with riding and teaching that it’s been quite challenging juggling the yard and that work, as I travel around a lot. The last 2 weeks I’ve been working 12-14 hour days without a break, 7 days a week – I think it’s finally catching up with me! And skipping lunch most days which is not advisable! I haven’t been able to watch much of the dressage from the Rio Olympics, but what a great result for the team. They really couldn’t have done any better as the Germans are so strong at the moment, and what an amazing freestyle from Charlotte to clinch Individual Gold.

I will take some pictures when the yard is more presentable and everything is in place.”
