Georgina at Trailblazers

August 1, 2016 Chris Price

Last weekend, our very own member of staff Georgina Teece and her horse Ruby took themselves to compete at the Trailblazers Championships. Here’s how they got on…

“Me and Ruby set off on our girlie adventure on Thursday lunchtime, 4 hours later and an hour later than expected we arrived at Stoneleigh were we would camp and stable for the next four days. After a short leg stretch over to the arena to have a school, the competition nerves soon set in after realising how much of a major competition this was. After a late first night getting everything ready for the two warm up classes on Friday we were all set to go as long as ruby stayed clean!

Luckily she did and we were met by Hannah, another ASM from Global Herbs, on Friday morning who was a great help in getting her ready and keeping me calm along with taking lots of photos. Ruby pulled off two very nice tests but she was a tad spooky and tense due to bad wind and all the flags around the arena which is one of those things we’ve never had to put up with before. Annoyingly we were just out of the placings coming 11th in the Prelim and 16th in the Novice but either way I was chuffed to bits and optimistic about the coming two days.

Onto the Saturday, semi-finals day and a much more relaxed Ruby luckily as I was by myself for the rest of the weekend. One slight rider error but a much better test for the Prelim which made us finish with overall 8th. The classes were of very high standard and had about 35 competitors in each section so I was over the moon. Our Novice test was again lovely but not quite in with the placings. So onto the prize giving which I knew Ruby would find the most fun part of the weekend, unfortunately not me. After standing nice for photos and receiving the rosette the lap of honour resulted in lots of jumping around sideways, cantering and rearing, but I wouldn’t blame her as it was all very exciting.

Sunday – final competition day. Nerves soon set in again but also the tiredness for both me and Ruby. The weather was nice and calm so hopefully we had everything in our favour for our last two tests and all I had to do was remember them. Quite hard to remember 6 tests over 2 days! But we did it, Ruby performed great again and although slightly tired I was very happy with our Prelim and Novice. Unfortunately we were out of the placings in the Novice but we managed to steal 8th again in the final National Prelim class. Once more the presentation for Ruby and we had a great gallop around the big grass arena this time and just a few bucks as we galloped past everyone.

Ruby is fed all year on FriskyMare Plus, she normally gets 1 scoop twice a day but a week leading up to any major competitions, especially when we stay away, I up the feeding rate to 1 ½ scoops twice a day.

Next weekend we have a Working Hunter qualifier for HOYS, then at the end of August we will be attending the International Jumping Festival – Scope.”

-A big well done from the rest of us at GH George! And thank you also to Hannah for her support and taking lots of photos.
