“Despite not having been able to ride all week following her biopsy – Evie did have a little trip out on Sunday to Hillhouse Unaffiliated. She’d managed to pop a few fences the previous day and it was great therapy for her, plus a chance to use the lovely new Global Herbs saddle cloths! No rosettes but just getting out was an achievement, and being able to spend some quality time with her lovely horse Breeze. It was a chance to see how she would cope in a big outdoor arena, and Breeze was very manageable and easy to control and set up, despite the rain. Evie’s leg weakness was very noticeable though and she’s looking forward to getting stronger and fitter as the year goes on.
Health-wise, Evie is awaiting a plan on how to progress under Birmingham Children’s Hospital regarding a problem with her lower intestine. It is far narrower than it should be, causing tremendous pain and the reason her ACE treatment takes hours. Thankfully her biopsy ruled out Hirschsprings, but she will still need surgery to improve her quality of life. We will know more this week and she will have an MRI to keep an eye on her Lipomyelomeningocele, as her pain has increased lately in her back.
Hopefully Evie will ride again this week and with a bit of luck the sun will shine.”
