Camilla Hardie Update

“This week has been all about perfecting the art of poulticing (as if I needed more practise!). Poor Dougal’s abscess burst out his heel and looked sore for a few days, he’s on Restore and Lymphblend to help him back to top form a little quicker. Luckily he and Beau had nothing planned so an easy week for them.

Bailey 4 year old went to his first proper sort of outdoor grass based show. Birmingham Childrens Hospital Charity show which was a fantastic show, with about 10 rings comprising every sort of class possible. Bailey was entered for dressage, again doing Prelim 7, which he has done on each of his previous 3 outings, so at least we know it! The added complication this time was that it was on grass, with a proper judge in a car and white boards, and right next to a busy dog show! He spent 10 minutes standing staring and was highly suspicious of a gazebo next to the rings, and with no sort of warm up in we went. Well, he held it together very well, despite Doberman’s parading and barking next to him, although it still feels a bit wobbly underneath.

Dressage done we went off to see what else we could do and entered the 70cm working hunter, deeming the 6 fence course straightforwards enough.  He was very game and leapt everything with feet to spare, until the last fence, which as he had already jumped in the other direction, a narrow style, he gave less room and had it down. After a well mannered show, he was the best of the 4 faulters for 4th place.

Took a now tired Bailey back to see how we got on in the dressage to discover we won with a massive 80%, and a 10 for his walk movement! We won a lovely sash and a sack of horse food, excellent prizes for a charity show. What a brave dressage star I have!

Now it is that time of year, I have put all 5 horses on Global Herbs Flyfree, some are more bothered by flies than others so it will be interesting to see how they get on. It certainly makes their feeds smell interesting…”
