“This week was a big week for baby Bailey. His first Championships for the British Eventing Jump Training Finals at Hartpury. I was quite reluctant to enter as it started at 8.30am and that meant an early get up time! The bonus however of leaving in the dark is no traffic, so although it was Bailey’s longest journey, it was pain free. I was also aware that the only indoor he has jumped in is Rodbaston where he qualified, so Hartpury would be a big eye opener for him.
A quick course walk with trainers Jonathan Chapman and Nick Gauntlet revealed a full up course with a rather worrying acute dog leg on 4 strides. I needn’t have worried as he absolutely flew. He stayed straight and wasn’t taken by the atmosphere at all. Because I still am holding him quite tight in an effort not to get jumped off our style mark was a little off the pace for 8th, but I couldn’t be more pleased with him. It was a great learning curve and I think we are more than ready to move up.”
