“So this week we were entered in the first in the series of dressage competitions at Ashwoods for Ride for Research, a series jointly sponsored by our own Global Herbs. I braved up all in the name of charity and, after 30 years of dressage riding, entered my first Elementary test. I then rummaged about for all the pink stuff I could find!
Sadly, Sunday came and it was absolutely freezing. Freezing snowy rain combined with wind, meaning both horses were suffering with a chilly wind under their tails! Bailey was first, in the Prelim. I only entered 2 tests as I didn’t think I could learn any more (thankfully this was a good choice due to the weather!). Bailey did a good test, if a bit stiff due to the weather. We trotted up the centre line and I couldn’t feel my face I was so cold! He ended on 72% for 4th place, and got a nice 8 for his final halt which was lovely and square.
Next up was Dougal, who was like a horse possessed as he was obsessing over his mate back on the lorry. It actually did us a favour as it certainly perked up the test! He did a super test which was really accurate and fun to ride, for 70% and 2nd place. We look forward to doing some more in the series. Hopefully in better weather!”
