“Busy weekend to welcome in February. Saturday we went to the coldest venue on the planet, Kelsall Hill. As denoted by its name, the fact that it’s on a hill means it is exposed and always force 10 gales. At least the sun was shining this time, and I remembered the lip balm! Beau went to contend the BE100 and Novice arena eventing. Always a super course with 8 show jumps and 8 cross country fences, run to an optimum time. I watched others go to get an idea of the time and then came in 1 second too slow in the 100 to end up a respectable 3rd. Therefore I sped up a little for the Novice and ended up coming in 1 second too fast… to come 3rd again! Super consistent clear rounds on an ever excitable Beau!
Sunday was Dougal’s turn to go to Field House for his final chance at qualifying for the Blue Chip Championships this year. He hasn’t jumped for 2 months, or been to a party, or been on the new lorry, in an attempt to garner some enthusiasm from him. You’d expect him to be a little excited to be allowed out, but no, same old Dougal! Mr Consistent! He managed to jump a very nice clear in the first round, so through to the jump off. I very expertly managed to miss him to every fence and he tried his heart out to clear everything, until we came on the perfect stride to the last and he had it down! As determined as he was to not have to go back to the Championships, we were fastest four faults and squeezed in to take the last qualifying place! Bad luck Dougal!”
