“With the weather on the chilly side, I’ve not been terribly enthusiastic about anything this week. I spent a while trying to find a competition to go to on Saturday and even washed tails on Friday evening, then decided it was just too cold to be getting up early and dragging the boys out to go jumping. If I have no goal or qualifying option I would rather conserve energy and diesel!
Sunday morning however, Bailey was entered in the British Eventing Jump Training, and very helpfully we were drawn first to go. Luckily it’s a relatively local venue, and it was daylight as I was leaving home… but it was also snowing! We ‘warmed up’ under the expert eye of Andrew Bennie, then jumped a round of show jumps with valuable feedback from Jeanette Brakewell. He jumped a super first round, with just the advice to use my body to sit him up and steady him. We went on to jump the 2nd round even better than the first. It’s a competition marked for style, so it was a long wait for everyone else to jump, and then we discovered we had won! We have now qualified for the final at Hartpury in a few weeks time, which will no doubt involve an even earlier morning…”
