“Last weekend was a busy one. Saturday Beau and Dougal were ferried down the motorway to Solihull for the Joshua Jones Blue Chip qualifier. One thing is for certain at Solihull, there will be plenty in the class. True to form we rolled onto an already full car park at 10am, and entered into the class with 84 others!
The track was up to height with plenty of fillers and there was nowhere to cut corners in the jump off, so we just had to ensure we jumped the fences! First up was Beau, we jumped at about 30th, and at this point there were only 8 double clears! Beau jumped a super double clear round, proving again that he totally loves his show jumping.
Onto Dougal, who doesn’t really love show jumping, but gives it a go. Having been clipped in the week he was feeling fresh for him. Sadly we turned a bit sharp into the first fence in the jump off and he tried very hard and cleared it but put us off stride to have the next fence down. It’s a shame as he did it in a fast time! Time for a nice hot cup off coffee as the class finished (at 3pm….), to discover Beau had come 3rd and qualified for the Blue Chip Championships for the 5th consecutive year.
Sunday was the turn of Bailey to go to a local venue for their arena eventing. We’d entered in the 80cm and I was quite surprised to see a course of 20 fences with steps up and down, water, a rather hefty laurel hedge and 3 arenas to go in and out of. Well, I needn’t have worried as he set off to the first fences and never wavered. Bit of a disagreement to a skinny plank as he charged at it and I thought we needed to be steadier, to have it down, but then an epic leap over the hedge and straight through the water and up and down the steps. Finished to discover we’d placed 3rd, so very proud of him.”
