“This week Dougal is just slopping about, I’m keeping him entertained with a little low key hacking. Bailey has been back in work for a couple of weeks and is ticking over, and Beau was entered for Kelsall arena eventing on Saturday. Friday morning, Beau came in lame. No heat, no swelling, nothing, he’s never had a lame step since I have had him so this was worrying! Friday afternoon Beau was less lame, but still lame, so I withdrew from Kelsall and had a quick hunt for a change of plans and booked to take Bailey schooling at a local venue around their arena eventing course. This was somewhat throwing him into it as he’s had 6 weeks off and no jumping since being back in work! Saturday morning, Beau was now sound but best that he has another day off, what’s another lost entry fee in the scheme of horses?!
Bailey bounded onto the lorry and off to Ashwoods. I’d not been there to jump before and was amazed by the facility. Two connecting arenas and a proper all weather water jump, perfect for Bailey. With the fences all dressed with a Halloween theme we bounded over coffins, broomsticks and spiders, finishing with a dive in the the water at the end! He was bold and brave to everything, so I’m keen to crack on this winter! Youngstock has really helped him whilst he was chilling out and growing some more. He’s still growing (seemingly into some sort of giraffe) so I will leave him on it for a bit longer.”
