“Disaster has struck!
I have finally been given the all clear to compete Watt and Tigga, so exciting! Last Saturday I took Watt to Berkshire College where he put in a fresh test but still scored a 25. We got to the showjumping with 15 before us, however they were calling for anyone who was ready to go in early. With Watt already excited I decided to go for it. The woman on the gate looked rather surprised, but Watt put in a stonking clear round, followed by breezing round the cross country with a few time faults. I didn’t want to push him on his first run.
Donkey had been tacked up and waiting and he did a fab test but only scored a 29. He was clear showjumping and then had a couple of stops on the cross country. He stopped at a table exactly like the one we pulled a shoe off and consequently nearly fell at at Brand Hall, so I think he was just wary and that’s not his fault, but it was gutting as for the first time I had put my foot down! Ho hey, but both boys were sound on Sunday, so we set off for West Wilts with 4 on board, Sirius, Griff and Otto to do Novice and Lilly to do her first BE100. All the Novice ponies aced their dressage, but sadly this was not to be my day…
There was a double alongside the fence, and outside the arena by the same fence was a water jump. As I was landing from the double, another horse splashed into the water and my pony spun on landing to the right leaving me flying and attempting a double back flip! I am exaggerating here, but I landed on my ankle and I knew pretty instantly it was broken. I tried to get up and out of the way so they could carry on with the competition, but no one would let me so instead I started taking boots and socks and jacket off in case they decided to try and cut me out of anything! I headed off to hospital and luckily David Doel kindly took the truck and ponies home for me. The hospital confirmed it was broken, dislocated and the tendons and ligaments torn. They had a few attempts trying manipulate it back into place before decided surgery was the way forward. So on Monday my ankle was plated and pinned, and I rested Tuesday and Wednesday. Don’t worry, I will be back in no time!”
We hope you’re feeling better soon Roo!! – GH
