“This week I was suffering from a serious case of post Badminton blues! After 6 months in preparation it was all over in a flash and back to reality. Beau has had a well deserved week off to relax and chill in the field, his first full week off since he came back from injury in 2013! He’s not good at relaxing though, and after a lot of bucking and squeaking and a pulled shoe, a week off is plenty…..
With Dougal entered for Llanymynech on Sunday it was time to get him back in shape. He is very good at holidaying and after a week at grass he looked more show hunter than the fit eventer I had the previous week. A couple of gallops and some strict schooling and we were off to the Welsh borders. Now, last year at Llanymynech they had changed the course around and included 2 water jumps. Water is Dougal’s least favourite thing. Last year we retired at the 2nd water as he wouldn’t go near it (having been in the lead going XC), so this years aim was to get through the waters. Mission failed. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him get in it!
Photo is from Kelsall, proving that Dougal does get his feet wet occasionally!”
