“This week was a little more sedate than last, just taking the main boys to some dressage training. After their previous week’s hooligans holiday show jumping they were both definitely still in jump mode. We ran through the new BE Novice test that we were aiming to do at Sapey, and in the ½ 10m canter circle Beau thought he was doing a jump off turn… Dougal was anticipating changes and was thrilled by the thought of a walk – canter transition. Needless to say we left with strict instructions to do flatwork and stretching for a few days….
Sunday signalled Bailey’s second dressage outing back to our local venue Tushingham. Although still tense it was nice to be in surroundings that have become more familiar to him and he held it together for his tests. Unfortunately my sat nav failed and I did one of my canter circles at the wrong end of the arena in Prelim 2 but was grateful that the judge didn’t bell me and just marked me down. We finished on 67% for 4th place, which was wonderful, although kicking myself as I would have been 2nd without the error! Onto Prelim 7 and the tension had gone and he did a lovely test, couldn’t have asked anymore from a not yet 4 year old, only mistake was falling into a heap in his final halt as he was tired. Thrilled to discover we had won with 70%, our first red frilly!”
