“National Championships here we come!!
Lisci (Celicia) and I have qualified for the Advanced Medium open at the National Championships. We came 3rd at the Regional Championships at Addington last week in a very strong class of 40 starters with 70%, beaten by top International Grand Prix riders Laura Tomlinson (71.58%) and Nikki Crisp (70.22%). I was thrilled with her performance, especially as 24hrs earlier we had a disastrous PSG with mistakes everywhere and a lot of tension! I completely changed my warm up for the Advanced Medium after what happened in the PSG, I rode her for 15mins at 6am just to relax her and give her a leg stretch and then warmed her up for the test for 35mins, half of that time I spent stretching and bending her working on her suppleness which is a one of our weak points. The early start and change in routine really paid off and is defiantly something I’ll do again. It was a very anxious wait as I was on at 9am and the class didn’t finish until 3:15pm, it was such a relief to get one of the automatic qualifying places I can’t wait for the nationals which are just over a month away now.
I also took my young horse Mimi (Rusalka) who is a 5 year old by Rhondeo to Mount Ballan regional championships to do the Novice Open. I had been having a few problems with her at home due to a wolf tooth which unfortunately couldn’t be removed before the regionals as there wasn’t enough time so I wasn’t that confident. She coped fantastically with the atmosphere it was just a shame that I couldn’t bend her right or touch her on the right side due to the wolf tooth so we had a lot of contact issues throughout but she couldn’t have gone any better given the circumstances. We did manage to score a respectable 65.4%, I was gutted that she couldn’t give me the test I know she can as I think I would have qualified her for the Nationals too but never mind, that’s horses! She has now had her wolf tooth removed and is having a little holiday. Lisci also enjoyed the rest of last week in the field. Both horses are very exciting Grand Prix prospects although Mimi is for sale.
Thank you to Global Herbs for the fantastic products that help keep my horses performing to their best. Lisci gets fed AirwayPlus liquid, Hocks, Flax Oil, GlobalVite and just recently she’s been on Diareeze as we’ve had a very rich batch of haylage. I also feed the SuperCalm Instant sachets to Mimi as she can go within herself at a show and this just keeps her focussed.”
